Have We Met?

It's good to have friends in the know.

As I hopped about trying to catch up on all I've missed being a demi-hermit for the past many weeks, it was Cagey who clued me into that wonderful week in the blogging community that is Delurking Week!

All hale Delurking Week (brought to us by Cheryl, as I understand it). That hallowed week where we hope to both meet those souls who read the tripe we write to a greater or lesser degree (bless you, bless you!) AND perhaps increase our comments. Comments to a blogger are as chocolate is to a PMSer or as well-rotted compost is to a garden. They nourish and console the blogger's psyche. They also provide entertainment.

So please.

Come out, come out, wherever you are!

Pretty please?

With chocolate and manure on top?

We're really nice, here in the land of cheese and beer.

We just want the chance to say "Hi!" You don't have to even write anything. Just hit random keys. Or no keys at all. Make up a name and a really glamorous career. I'll never know.

I'll return the favor and will make sure to wipe my feet (and my mouth).

Still not convinced?

Well, maybe next year.

I was going to go all Bah Humbug about the de-lurking thing, but am really glad I hopped on the bandwagon. I've been checking out everyone commenting on my site and it's cool discovering some new sites to read.

Not a lurker. But I would love some hot chocolate, esp on this cold morning.

Rebecca- So nice of you to comment (2 posts in a row, so double points)!

Cagey- You do meet the nicest people. I certainly understand lurking, do it myself plenty, but once a year, it's nice to get to wave back. Visiting back is certainly a bonus.

Patti- Welcome and thanks for coming out! I see we have several blog friends in common. Such fun!

Listie- Dark, milk, or both? (Me? I'd go with both.)

Ruth- Coming right up! Have an extra bit.

Sanjay- Mmmmm. That sounds divine. Having some nice coffee right now. Should have put some cinnamon in it, which would also be lovely in your hot chocolate. Here you go. Care for a biscotti?

I think this is the only Blog that I DON'T Lurk on... What is wrong with me? It must be your sunny disposition...or the promise of chocolate... or the fantasy of you coming and re-planting my entire yard... It's not the leftovers! Hope you have a nice day!

Well, OK, I'm Kathryn and I'm old enough to be your mother, but if we were neighbors (which, alas, we are not), we would be meeting over the compost pile regularly to bemoan our latest defeats (preferably in haiku).

I went into journalism because I'm incurably nosy -- where else would you find a job that pays you (PAYS! In Real Money!) to ask questions. Reading your blog is like doing an interview, without the boring necessity of turning it into something later.

Best wishes, lovely lady, to you and yours.

I am not a lurker.

Why do I feel somewhat like Richard Nixon when I write that?

I think this Kathryn needs a blog because hello, compost piles and haiku? Come on!

I'm so glad you commented on my site when you did because you are incredibly lovely and I adore you.

You-all can fight over the chocolate; I'll take the cow- horse- chicken-manure. I am the only one in the family that has gardening issues-the darn thing won't produce anything. And I have been composting for 20 years. 14 bags of manure has done no good, if it is still there.

Anyway, my roses are doing great.

Not a lurker, sorry. I am more like a STALKER who knows where you live and the names of your children and husband.

Also, I need to talk to you... so will probably e-mail you soon...

I tried to comment yesterday, but Blogger was out of its mind and claimed I was some sort of suspicious character.

"Comments to a blogger are as chocolate is to a PMSer or as well-rotted compost is to a garden."

Absolutely love the compost analogy! It made me laugh out loud.

Not many lurkers are taking your bait. What's the deal?

Yea! I got in to comment. I tried for quite a bit yesterday and only got error messages about Google.

I guess I'm not a lurker. I do love National Delurking Week. I meant to play along this year. It's fun to get to know others and find some new sites.

Kate- Oh, somehow I doubt that's true as I know that Colleen and Linda are blessed with your comments. Hey, does the ban on leftovers extend to such things as cookies? How about chocolate cookies? Partially consumed chocolate bars (the really huge ones)?

Kathryn! Absolutely thrilled! Dueling haiku around the compost heap. And a journalist. Very cool. Often I feel as though I'm my own mother or my daughter. I rarely feel I'm my own middle age. I second DM's nomination for you to start your own blog. We'll come visit. (Although that may not be quite the inducement it's supposed to be...)

Dana- Why do I see Nixon when you say that? Te adoro, too. Thank goodness you're not a lurker. This blog would be a much sadder place were that so.

Dad- I'm still perplexed as to why, with all you've done to boost your garden you still can't even get zucchini to grow.

Ariella- Ah, but I, too, know where you, and your cats and husband live. I'm so glad you moved into my backyard, so to speak. (Talk to you soon! I'm home tomorrow.)

Rozanne- Yes. Blogger was having bouts of extreme paranoia. Accused me (ME!) of being a trashy piece of spam. You know, I've always figured this blog wasn't really a lurking place. A few stay and pull up a chair and have a gab and the rest of those who happen by looking for either a cool, hip place or kinky compost and nude deer pictures pass on in the night. Quality over quantity. It is so nice to see who'll wave back.

Beth- You, me, Rozanne; I tell you, I think Blogger/Google needs some major tranquilizers. Delurking Week: The bestest week of the whole blog year.

Please pass the chocolate! Prefer dark, but really, the only kind I MIGHT refuse is white. Guess I'm kind of prejudiced when it comes to my chocolate! tee hee hee

I thought about participating in the delurking week on my blog but am afraid there won't be any comments! A blogger's worst nightmare!!!

Hi, I'm Johnny, the female that goes by a male name. *cheery wave* I migth as well delurk, since I go through periods where I skim and flee. It's all bt loads of mental health.

You have the nicest lurkers, and I second the need to force Kathryn into creating a blog. Blog! Blog! Blog!

Colleen- Dark it is! (Really, how did that nasty, cloying white stuff ever get the name 'chocolate' attached? Don't you have to be made from the cocoa bean to be chocolate? Yes. Yes you do.) You might be surprised who comes forward.

Teri- I'll pretend you didn't comment and you pretend I didn't respond. Shhhh... Nah. Forget it. A post without a comment from you just isn't complete.

Johnny- Oh, you. Even when you're not visibly around, you're still around. Smooch right cheek, smooch left cheek. It'll all sort out and then you'll be hit with the next load o' shite, like 23 exams in a week.

Kathryn, again -- and how kind of you, CarpeDM and Lioness to urge me to blog. But you see, journalists ASK questions, we don't answer them....

So, I'll be fading away now, like the Cheshire Dog, until only my ears are left....

See you next year!

Mostly a lurker though I have commented before. Can't pass up chocolate. I am trying to aquire a taste for the super dark stuff due to my horrific cholesterol and triglyceride levels so please make sure mine is at least 70% cocoa. ;) You can keep the manure as I have plenty of dog piles in my yard (wish it could be considered fertilizer).

Just curious...does it feel weird knowing people read but don't respond?

Lauren- Thank goodness!

Kathryn- Ah. There you go. A little breath of exotic air and then you vanish in the, well, mid morning CST. Maybe you'll check in from time to time? Maybe over a particularly tough gardening issue? Contribute a haiku?

Beckyb!- You pop up from time to time, my fellow Wisconsinite. I hope you and the family are OK? (I wonder if you fed the dog a vegetarian diet if you could use it as fertilizer?) Hm. Weird. Nope. See, it never really occurs to me than anyone reads that doesn't comment. I'm very adept at all types of denial. (Plus, as you all can see, nothing gets in here that I'd not be fine with being read at a board meeting by my boss. Only way I could do this. (Swear words don't bother me, therefore I may use them liberally.))

Lisa- Hi Honey! You bet! I'll pop one off now. If you don't get it by 3pm your time, there's something wrong.

Rozanne- See, this is why I don't have a site meter or do any tracking of what search words have brought people by.

Jamie- Says the woman with the chocolatey dog cookies.

I'm not a lurker -- I'm just too overworked to read sometimes! Who wants to hire me to read and comment on blogs? Anyone? I'm cheap (but not easy).

Leigh-Ann- Poor you! I'd hire you. (You know, I wonder if you couldn't get something like that going for those who want to feel the warm glow of a pile of comments?)
