Damn and Blast

I am here to heartily apologize to Sanjay, Lauren, Karen, Amy and any one else who's blog I've been unable to leave a comment on these past several days.

Not only is that damn blogger not letting me switch over to Beta, (although it keeps asking me if I want to switch, cruel, cruel bastard), I'm now not able to leave a comment on the blogs who have switched and don't use Haloscan.

Won't let me comment anonymously.

Won't let me comment signed in under 'another blog'.

Won't let me comment. Period.

So:

Sanjay. I am reeling that you've never seen Clerks. I need to see it again. Charles and Colin are in the midst of a Superman film fest. I am leaving them to it. One viewing 20ish years ago was enough.

Lauren. I am fatigued with thinking of what you have to get done in the next week. I feel like I've no right to gripe, but I assure you it will not stop me from doing so. All I have to do is Colin's party (we've both birthday kids this weekend), and show up at work. My desk is usually pretty clean.

Karen. For some reason, I'm a sunflower, too. This strikes me as odd as I'm not really a little ray of sunshine. More of a sarcastic lungwort, with a bit of bleeding heart tendency, (but only a bit).

Amy. From one obsessive-compulsive, counting freak to another: You are right. Never enough lights, although you may be close. It's all lovely. Now go buy more on your way home. Just in case you feel the need to add more. Just so I'm not the only one doing so.

I will try to break through, but as I am someone with the computer skills of a sardine, don't hold your breath. Make that a middle-aged sardine who typed her college papers on a typewriter for god's sake and who's job requires pretty much no computer skills. It's a wonder I can even turn the thing on in the morning. But, I wanted to let you know that, even though there's no tripey comment from me, I am reading. And chortling.

Just apparently invisibly.

Please forgive.

(By the way, that's a plea for help, if anyone knows what I'm doing wrong. Anyone else have a problem? Is this just a personal thing? Wouldn't surprise me.)

Damn blogger.

Wonder how the Typepad half live.

Diana, No apologies needed. I know some ppl who switched to wordpress and love it.
I do have an e-mail someplace explaining how to switch to blogger beta. I will send it to you if you wish, hopefully it will help. My e-mail address is in my blogger profile. If you cannot get to that it is karmicjay_at_gmaildotcom (the underscores are not in the actual address and neither is the 'dot' so they would have to be taken out. They are meant to deter bots (automated programs) that harvest e-mail addresses.
@Leaving C & C alone. *A* left me alone too. Can you believe that I want to watch "Eragon" too? *A* rolled her eyes and said I have to go on my own, since she won't go. *sigh* My netflix dvd list gets longer by the day.

I agree that no apologies are necessary. Glad to know you are checking in every now and again.

I wish I had some insight on how to switch. I fumbled through trying to follow the directions. I too am not good with the computer "techy" stuff.

My simpathy. However, this is why I shun Beta versions of all software as a shun unknow senders of emails. My thoughts are with all my Piffle-heads.

Hi Sunflower :)

No apologies needed here either, although I must admit it gave me a delightful thrill to be part of your post content as a result.

My advice about Blogger Beta?

Having switched myself.... don't do it til it's out of Beta.

The very cool new template tool is wonderful, but using it means I can't switch to ftp publishing, which I've been wanting to do.

Commenting on unswitched blogs like yours is annoying in that I have to login first before I write up the comment. And I keep forgetting that.

Comments that recieve from folks now all come from a noreply address, even though I'm sure that some of the folks are signing in and leaving their addresses. I can't reply privately unless they're already in my address book.

It's all very annoying and I hope they work it out soon.

I'm afraid to try the switch to beta. I have the computer skills of a gnat and if the switch messes up, I'm finished. (My students look at me in horror when I try to explain how we managed in school in the old days. Typewriter? Carbon paper? How DID we do it?)

Ariella- yeah. I suspected it. If blogger doesn't turn around soon, I'm switching. I'd like to stay with what I have just because I know where everything is. I'll pick your brain when we get together again. Which reminds me, I need to e-mail you. We must fondue.

Sanjay- I knew you'd have an idea. I tried to switch maybe a month ago and it told me that I was not eligable, what ever that means. I'll e-mail you tomorrow, assuming the daughter and the dog give me 15 minutes together. If not, it'll be the weekend. You're the best. Oh! I agree with you on wanting to see Eragon. I thought the book wasn't very good but think it'll make a good movie, in the right hands. Plus, I like that sort of thing. Won't likely see it in the theater, but will Netflix it. I think I'd shrivel up without Netflix.

Lauren- Kiss, kiss. Thanks for understanding. I've been somewhat horrorstruck thinking that you-all might think I was ignoring you. I tried to switch and got turned down. (sniff) I'll probably retry in a few weeks, when the holiday madness has calmed down.

Dad- I think I'll like some aspects of it, if it'd only let me join the party. It was fine when I could still comment on the Beta blogs up until this week.

Karen- Hi, Sunflower, indeed. Don't switch? Really? It sounded like stoneage blogger was going kaput in a few months. I even reserved a google account name and password, which I seem to have forgotten and can't find the confirmatory e-mail. I'm a mess. I had no idea commenting on our stoneaged blogger posts were a hassle, too. Fuckwads.

Listie- Oh, please let me know how it goes when you switch. I have this secret fear that my whole blog will either crash or disappear completely when it happens and then I'll really be sobbing.

We did it with lots of swearing at 2am, typing up those final drafts from our handwritten notes, finding we'd not typed a whole vital paragraph at the top of a page toward the front of the paper (which necessitated retyping the whole damn thing). We used quarts of white-out. We sobbed frequently, but didn't worry about a system failure. God. Carbons. Forgot those.

I ::heart:: my typepad...

I used blogspot for about 6 months then decided I was going to die at a very young age from rupturing something important somewhere important if I kept typing 2 hour long posts that then just disappeared into nothefuckwhere...

I do not regret that decision.

I've been reading Jay's blog and can't post their either- drats. I'm a very poor blogger. I can't figure out the link thing, among my other technology challenges.

Oh if I had the dough I'd SO be a typepadwordpressanythingelse blogger.

The beta comment thing is happening to me too. I had to go back and try and comment like 50 times. And finally it took as anon.

Fuckers were trying to trick me into changing. I'd sign in and the first thing I'd see instead of my dashboard was 'your beta blog is ready--click here!!' Thank god I scrolled. I want beta with the lovely labels and all that. But I'm keeping my fucking haloscan if it KILLS me. So until they get THAT little kink sorted I ain't-a budgin.

Diana. I will be happy to help anyways that I can. I have a workaround for ppl not being able to comment on my blog..

"For those who have trouble posting comments please use the comments link at the left at the bottom of the post, for those who used to comment as before continue to use the "comment" link to the right at the end of the post as always."

Can you give it a try? Thanks

oh, Piff, don't worry about it! I know you're still around! I am kind of regretting the decision to switch to Beta, and might think about moving from Blogger completely. it seems to be making more trouble for me and others than it's really worth.

have a great weekend!!

Christie- Aside from the eating of the posts thing, any other reasons you love Typepad? (I've been told that Typepad also eats posts, although maybe not as frequently as our maligned, yet free, blogger.)

Stace- He's added Haloscan for those of us that blogger has barred! It works!!

Babs- I'm so glad you've not converted. I'd have to slash my wrists in protest if I couldn't comment on the insanity that is your universe. Looks like if you have Haloscan, though, the comments are working, so you'd be OK. Sounds like there are other reasons to be dissatisfied, though. Wonder how long before they either force us to jump or cut us off.

Sanjay- I just did it!!! Works like a charm having Haloscan! Mmmmmwa!

Amy- Awww, thanks, sweetie. I'm hoping they straighten things out. It'd be a pain to move all my posts over to a new blog. There's a few hundred of them and I'd not want to blog without them, it's handy to link to them rather than re-explaining to anyone new.

You know, I like using Haloscan for comments. Yes, once in awhile they do maintenance and there is no comment box at all, but it does make it easier for bloggers (or non-bloggers) from different services comment. I hope you're able to switch to the new Blogger soon - I actually like it. Do you have a Gmail account set up yet? It's required. If you need an invite, let me know. I'll send you one.

I can't comment on Betas either and I'm not switching or I'll be really lost with no one to help me! After several tries and some observation of other commenters suddenly using Anon, I figured that was the trick so I don't get why Anon wouldn't work for you.
I don't even know what Google accounts are or G-mail either. I hope they don't cancel Blogger or I'm done!

Hmmm, my comment apparently went through.....

Sorry, don't know what to say because I haven't had any problem with Beta. Yet, that is.

Diana, do you already have a Google account? It seems that Blogger and Google have merged. I do have a Gmail account already, so the change has been seamless for me in that regard. If you don't have a Gmail account yet, try getting one, then switching to Beta.

I was having difficulties leaving a comment yesterday, so we'll see if it works now.

They kinda pulled a beta and switch on me when regular old Blogger was down but beta was working. It was during NaBloPoMo, so I really was worried about getting my post up and switched. There are some semi-annoying things about beta, e.g., you have to be signed in to comment.

As a compromise you might switch over to HaloScan commenting and not go beta.

My one reason for loving beta is the lovely lovely categories. I've held out for so long, not going to typepad or wordpress.

I was able to keep haloscan without a problem.

I liked reading this. It reminded me of Dear Abby's Confidential to...
